Z’odd Design Sdn Bhd offers a comprehensive range of services in themed construction, rockwork and water features for the theme park and speciality construction industry. We provide a one-stop turnkey design and build solution for our client.

With more than 20 years of experience, the team at Z’odd creates and implements virtually any type of rock and water design including replicas of natural settings, whimsical fantasy environments, or historical reproductions. As a one-stop solution provider, Z’odd provides maximum project coordination and flexibility while ensuring the highest level of design consistency. We are also able to work alongside a clients' own design or architectural team to develop a full-scaled, finished masterpiece, or implement to build environments designed by others.

A combination of experienced management with master craftsmen and creative support, Z’odd works with owners, design architects, and contractors through the design and construction process to produce quality projects on time and on budget.

Our Key Members

Yap Meow Hoo
Project Director

Yap is an experienced themed entertainment executive with nearly 15 years in the industry. He is also the founding member of Z’odd and over the years has secured and managed projects of all levels from interior renovation works to full scale theming development works. He has extensive hands-on experience in scheduling, project management and construction management.

Over the years in running Z’odd’s operations, Yap has progressively developed and implemented the organization, policies, procedures and staff necessary to execute major project. He played key roles in preparing all types of estimates to bid and construct major projects both in Malaysia and internationally.

Yap is responsible to oversee all design and construction details to ensure proper planning and allocation of resources to complete the projects on time and in accordance to the required specification.

As a result of his persistent effort and hardwork, Z’odd has been recognized as a trustworthy partner and contractor that deliver. Over the years, Z’odd has managed to expand and secured theming projects locally as well as overseas such as in the Middle East, Russia, China and more recently Singapore.

Robert Bowman
Art Director

Bob joined Z’odd in January 2009 as the Art Director responsible for the overall art direction of Z’odd theming projects at the Universal Studios Singapore (Dreamworks). The Dreamworks package includes rockworks, fibreglass cladding, scenic painting, sculpturing works as well as props production of 3-D cartoon characters for its merchandise and retail outlets. Bob is responsible to ensure that the construction of all Z’odd projects met the company’s and industry’s level of control and standards.

Bob brings with him over 25 years of experience in rockwork carving and building of theme parks across the globe where he was the specialist in rockwork design and production. He was previously attached to reputable organizations like Universal Studios, Walt Disney, KHSS, Rock & Waterscape Systems Inc, Scenario Design, involving in notable projects such as Jurassic Park (Orlando and Japan), Lost Continent at Island of Adventure, Bugsland at Disney, Finding Nemo. His previous employment before joining Z’odd was as the Field Director for Exposito Enterprise Inc in 2008.

Bob is a renowned “rockwork specialist” in the theming construction industry, capable of bringing artificial rockwork to the highest level of detailing and reality. He has trained many successful rock carvers and many of his protégé are now involved in creating and directing theming works around the world.

Ronald A. James
Project Superintendant

Ron is an experienced development and construction executive with nearly 20 years in the industry. He has extensive hands-on experience in estimating and cost control as well as project management. He has played key roles in the development and execution of major projects in the United States during his attachment with Scenario Design Inc (2006 – 2008) and Disney World Wide (2007 – 2008).

Ron began his career with Cement Masons Union as a Plastering Contractor in 1984. From there, he started Canon Construction in 1993 which carried out all sorts of construction projects, amongst other the Legoland California where he worked on the entire wall façade of the building and rock waterfall. In 2005, he was recruited to join the State of California Real Estate Consulting Services as the Demolition Superintendent.

Ron joined Z’odd in early 2009 to oversee and manage the development of the Qingdao Powerlong Amusement Park; dubbed the largest indoor theme park project in China. The project designed following the theme from the “Pirates of the Caribbean” and occupies the entire lower ground floor of the top-grade Qingdao Chengyang Powerlong Urban Plaza.

Ron was responsible to manage a team of artisans and labour (approx. 200 headcount) and provide the technical know-how, art direction and supervision for this fast track project which features unique rock works surrounding the water canal, thematic wall façade for the retail and merchandise outlets, scenic painting and sculptural works.

David W. Tye
Lead Sculptor

Dave is an experienced sculptor with many years of experience at studios, working as a Lead Sculptor carving many types of foam products. He has over the years amasses extensive mold making technique, welding rockwork cages, sculpting façade work etc. He is familiar with fast paced assignments and understands product level and quality.

Since 1997, Dave has been involved in sculpturing and prop making works for movies like Transformers I, II & III, Land of the Lost, National Treasure II, Meet the Spartans, Pirates of the Caribbeans II & III, Lions of Lambs, The Guardian, Van Helsing to name a few. Dave was also part of the project team on rockwork production for notable parks and resorts like Universal Studios Osaka, Ponca State Park, Ft. Myers Resort since year 2000.

Dave joined Z’odd in mid 2009 for the Universal Studios Singapore project and was responsible for the prop and mold making for the Dreamworks package, sculpturing custom characters like Shrek, Puss-In-The-Boots, Penguins, Donkey, Fairy God Mother etc.
