It is important for cars to be equipped with hand-held and portable fire extinguishers.
This was said by Road Safety Department director-general Datuk Suret Singh during the launch of the FIPCOM (Fire Prevention Council Malaysia) hand-held aerosol dry powder fire extinguisher at Tropicana City Mall, Petaling Jaya last Wednesday.
“Last year, 800 car fire incidents were reported in the country. Thus, portable fire extinguishers can help to save lives and prevent injuries in such incidents,” said Suret.
The FIPCOM fire extinguisher was launched for car owners as part of the Ministry of Transport’s One Cay-One Extinguisher campaign.
The campaign is also supported by the Automobile Association of Malaysia (AAM) and FIPCOM.
The FIPCOM fire extinguisher is ideal for homes, vehicles, offices and workshops.
According to FIPCOM secretary general Eugene Wong, the fire extinguisher is manufactured locally and conforms to Australia, North American and British quality standards.
“It has been produced since 2005, and exported to countries like Australia, New Zealand and Singapore,” said Wong.
The FIPCOM fire extinguisher is priced at RM59.90 and is available at 21 AAM outlets in the country.
AAM members are entitled to a 20 percent.
